Balfour Walker

Born in Philadelphia in 1947, Balfour Walker was introduced to photography at an early age by both watching and working in his father's studio and darkroom. Moving to Tucson in the mid 60s, he graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in business before going on to set up his own photography studio.

In 1971 he traveled extensively in Europe, often with Michael Keyser, recording his impressions of the international sports car and formula one racing circuits for THE SPEED MERCHANTS. He devoted most of 1972 to his commercial photography business in Arizona, but was drawn back to motor racing in 1973 working for both the Graham Hill and Hesketh/James Hunt Formula One teams over a three year period. In addition to photographing each Grand Prix during those years, he drove the Hill and Hesketh motor homes from track to track and helped out behind the scenes with the overall operation of the teams.

Based in Tucson now for over thirty years, Balfour Walker has gained a solid reputation in the world of advertising photography for his creative approach and attention to detail in the subjects he shoots

. Clients include Learjet, IBM, Intergroup Healthcare, Caterpillar, Bombardier Canada and Sheraton and Westin Hotels. Still a motor racing enthusiast, he makes a point of attending and photographing as many events as possible.

Balf's interests include vintage (R75/5) and modern (R1100GS) BMW motorcycles. He likes to just get on and go! Ever been to the Shady Dell trailer trailer park in Bisbee, AZ? Restored Airstream and Marathon travel trailers you can rent for the night. Complete with period 40's and 50's decor and pink flamingos. The modern bike is great for dirt roads being a dual sport and it was even the impetus for getting married to Leslie Galloway on a trip with his brother and sister-in-law to west Texas for Halloween.
