Moving to Tucson in the mid 60s, Balfour Walker graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in business before going on to set up his own photography studio. In 1971 he traveled extensively in Europe, often with Michael Keyser, recording his impressions of the international sports car and formula one racing circuits for THE SPEED MERCHANTS.
He devoted most of 1972 to his commercial photography business in Arizona, but was drawn back to motor racing in 1973 working for both the Graham Hill and Hesketh/James Hunt Formula One teams over a three year period. In addition to photographing each Grand Prix during those years, he drove the Hill and Hesketh motor homes from track to track and helped out behind the scenes with the overall operation of the teams. Balfour's interests include vintage (R75/5) and modern (R1100GS) BMW motorcycles. He likes to just get on and go! Still a motor racing enthusiast, he makes a point of attending and photographing as many events as possible.
